Pea Protein: The US Department of Commerce Reaches Preliminary Decision in Dumping Investigation

December 13, 2023

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has reached a preliminary decision to impose countervailing duties on Chinese imports of pea protein concentrate with a protein content higher than 65% on a dry weight basis. The DOC's preliminary determination found that Chinese pea protein producers received government subsidies at rates ranging from 15% to 342%.

According to market participants, these subsidies have allowed Chinese producers to sell product in the US at significantly lower values than domestic prices, leading to unbalanced competition. The DOC is expected to make a final decision in the coming months.
