Market participants remain cautious that limited sugar supply in the US will impact prices throughout 2023, despite a slight improvement in fundamentals. Sugar production is one of the most energy intensive industries, and the costly process of crushing and refining white sugar will continue to trickle down throughout the supply chain. Mexico’s production has been reduced, based on lower expectations for sugar cane yields and sucrose recovery. Meantime, booking activity increased during Q1, which may contribute to tightness and firmer prices in the months ahead.
Mintec will dissect exactly what is happening in the US sugar market in a free-to-view webinar on May 3rd.
Topics will include:
1) Cane and beet crop progress.
2) The impact of inflation on production.
3) A look at demand dynamics in the US.
4) Import expectations for 2022/23.
5) Spot and contract prices for US sugar.
