Update: Chicken Market – May 2022

June 13, 2022

1 mins read

The recent three-month average price of EU chicken (Mar ’22-May ‘22) reached EUR 2,535/MT, 17% above the previous average (Dec ‘21-Feb ‘22), driven by low chicken supplies on the market. Avian Influenza (AI) cases in the EU have reduced market supplies, thus exerting upward pressure on prices. In France (one of the largest producers of poultry), from November 2021 until the end of April 2022, 1,354 HPAI outbreaks were confirmed on commercial poultry farms by the French agriculture ministry.

Similarly, the Mar ’22-May ‘22 average price of US chicken rose sharply, by 26% to USD 3,499/MT, compared to the previous average (Sep-Nov ‘21) with a spur in demand from the retail and the foodservice sectors and relatively slow growth in production.

From economical to political, all the factors impacting the chicken market have been analysed to provide a market outlook for the next three months.
