Mintec launches weekly Mintec Benchmark Prices (MBP) for US Almonds

Mintec has launched a weekly Mintec Benchmark Prices (MBP) assessments for US almonds, effective Thursday 2 March 2023.

The initial proposal to launch this assessment was announced in a market note published on 30th January 2023 and can be found here  and the decision to go ahead with the launch was communicated in a market note on 14th February 2023, which can be found here.

The assessment reflects the transactable value at 16:00 London time for the prices of a 40ft container of almonds on a per pound basis.

Mintec already assesses Mintec Benchmark Prices for Carmel Type Supreme 23/25 & 27/30, which are larger and smaller in size to the new assessment. The assessment complements Mintec’s existing offering and provides additional transparency into the price differentials between almonds of differing sizes, due to the increased granularity offered to market participants. This is particularly important due the ongoing droughts in California which have reduced the proportion of US almonds growing to larger sized kernels.
