February 7, 2020

1 mins read

The average price of potatoes in NEPG countries (Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Great Britain) has decreased by 8% in the recent three months (Nov-Jan) compared to the previous three-month average (Aug-Oct), as a result of prices returning to normal levels, following weather-influenced highs in the last year.

Total production in NEPG countries is estimated to reach 26.9m tonnes, up 10.4% y-o-y in 2019/20 as the area under cultivation continues to grow in the leading producing countries. The NEPG countries are anticipated to plant potatoes on over 613,000 hectares in 2019/20, representing a new high for the region. Thus, the planted area is forecast to be up 2.9% y-o-y and 1.5% compared to the previous five-year average.

From economical to political, all the factors impacting the potato market have been analysed to provide a market outlook for the next three months. Mintec’s market outlooks (schedule) provide insights on factors shaping the market dynamics of various commodities, providing the opportunity for market participants to stay ahead of factors that will impact procurement decisions.
