Soummam, Algeria’s largest private buyer, closed the recent 12.5k mt milk powder tender, composed of 5,000 mt skimmed milk powder (SMP) and 7,500 mt whole milk powder (WMP) on 19th September, following several days of competitive bidding from dairy producers and traders across the globe. According to multiple market sources, the complete volume of WMP was covered by a New Zealand producer, but price levels for WMP remain unconfirmed. However, multiple market players stated a price level of below $3,000/mt CFR Algeria for WMP.
Several EU contacts confirmed that the tender closed on SMP prices between €2,300-2,400/mt CFR Algeria. While SMP volumes were reported to largely come out of Europe, WMP has been reportedly largely supplied out of New Zealand.
