Brazilian pork exports increase during January to April 2023 period

Brazilian pork exports increased markedly during the first four months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Brazilian pork exports continued to grow strongly from 2018 to 2022 and are reportedly the fourth largest pork exports globally, with 1.3 million mt of pork exported during 2022 according to the USDA.

According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), from January to April, pork exports reached 379.4 thousand metric tonnes (mt), a volume 15.9% higher than that shipped in the first four months of 2022, which was 327.3 thousand mt. In terms of revenue, the rise recorded in the period was 29.7%, to $897.7 million, between January and April 2023. The primary export destination for Brazilian pork is still China, with a total of 143.2 thousand mt registered between January and April of this year, surpassing exports carried out in the first four months of 2022 by 20.8%. Other notable trade partners were Hong Kong, at 42.2 thousand mt (+24.8%), the Philippines, at 27.8 thousand mt (+19.5%), Chile, at 27.3 thousand mt (+69.3%) and Singapore, at 23.8 thousand mt (+18.7%).
