The average price of EU tomatoes increased by 10% over the last twelve months (Oct 18-Sep 19), compared to the same period a year ago, following a drop in production due to adverse weather conditions.

The Netherlands, Spain and Italy are the most significant tomato markets in the EU. In the Netherlands, the winter production is likely to increase, having grown by 33% over the last five years. Historically, it is observed that the total exports plummet in the second half of the year compared to the first half. Therefore, as per Mintec analysis, exports are estimated to fall by 50% and 13% respectively in H2 2019 compared to H1.

From weather to political, all the factors impacting the tomato market have been analysed to provide a market outlook for the next six months.  Mintec’s market outlooks (schedule) provide insights on factors shaping the market dynamics of various commodities, providing the opportunity for market participants to stay ahead of factors that will impact procurement decisions.
