Improved supplies weigh down on turmeric prices in India

October 4, 2019

Turmeric prices on the NCDEX in India have declined by 14% m-o-m and are down 5% y-o-y. The overall output from the 2019/20 harvest is now anticipated to increase by around 12% y-o-y, against earlier expectations of a decline in production, due to excessive rainfall in India in August. The rains have benefitted the crops in the main growing regions of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The current season turmeric arrivals in key Nizamabad market are estimated to have increased by over 20% compared to the last season, improving the overall availability of turmeric in the Indian market.
